The Palace Museum of King Erekle II

The Palace Museum of King Erekle II, also known as "Batonis Tsikhe," is situated in Telavi, the heart of Georgia's Kakheti region. This 17th–18th century architectural monument served as the royal residence for the kings of Kakheti and stands as the only royal palace in Georgia that has withstood the test of time.

History of the Palace Museum

Construction of the palace began during the reign of King Archil II in the 17th century. Over the years, it underwent several modifications, with each king adding personal touches to its architecture. The complex includes the court church, eastern walls, and baths built during King Archil's time. King Erekle II, born in this palace in 1762, received ambassadors in its main hall and resided in its modest chambers until his death in 1798
